Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Reason: Persistent addition of unsourced content. Waxworker (talk) 12:55, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 19:32, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – This is a highly contentious ongoing conflict. Unregistered users have gotten their attention on it, which is becoming a problem. Kautilya3 (talk) 14:07, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 19:33, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Subject has been reported dead by several self published sources, however, no RS is reporting it yet. Have had many well-meaning but BLP-inexperienced editors trying to update the article with death info from these sources; request increase to EC protection. 🌸wasianpower🌸 (talk • contribs) 14:11, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 19:33, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: I am requesting page protection for Ponnar Shankar due to continuous vandalism by a specific user, Minakshi Pillai. This user has repeatedly engaged in disruptive edits, particularly targeting articles related to Vellalars and related topics. The repeated vandalism is affecting the integrity of the page and its content.

Additionally, I would like to clarify that some of the historical and folkloric information in the article comes from oral traditions, which may limit the availability of high-quality sources. However, these details are still valuable for documenting cultural history.

I kindly request that appropriate action be taken, such as page protection or user intervention, to prevent further vandalism. Mr.fakepolicy (talk) 18:52, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done You have requested protection earlier today and the request was declined. I suggest observing several days and if you believe the page needs protection, you can submit a new request. Less Unless (talk) 20:29, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As i have mentioned a user name that particular user vandalizing the all article related to the vellalars and this article is related to them, despite being warned many times before this type of edits never stopped before unless the article is protected. so i requesting for protection again, which this article is also come under the [[Wikipedia:GS/CASTE]] Mr.fakepolicy (talk) 20:38, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: – Persistent spam and repeated edit requests that were mostly made today. Requesting protection for 1 day. SKAG123 (talk) 21:06, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one day, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 21:31, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: this article should be protected under Wikipedia:GS/CASTE Mr.fakepolicy (talk) 21:13, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Will log at WP:GS/CASTE. Daniel Case (talk) 21:34, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    No protection: No longer necessary. 1250metersdeep (talk) 17:33, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it no longer necessary? Please expand your rationale. — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 21:30, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The page no longer attracts vandalism as the subject is no longer contentious. The person is no longer active in politics and the page view is low compared to previous data. The page is only protected due to one vandalism attempt by an IP address which had not edited wikipedia since. I see no reason why there could be persistent vandalism once the protection is decreased. Therefore, I request that the page be no longer protected. CS012831 (talk) 20:17, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: This page is filled with misinformation and opinions that have not been fact checked. It has been edited to slur and slander MTG's reputation for strictly political reasons and is essentially a Hit Job on her written by someone who does not agree with her positions. Just Like ABC, and CBS, who have been found guilty of multiple counts of defamation and had to pay out millions from judgements awarded to plaintiffs, like MTG, Wikipedia, is also now guilty of the same actions by allowing this type of slander to go on and then blocking people from editing it. I suggest you take this page down before you find yourselves in court being handed a decision that makes you have to pay out millions in damages for allowing this type of propaganda to continue on your website. As we have seen, this type of yellow journalism now has consequences, and unless you take action and correct this, you too will suffer the consequences of allowing, and protecting this kind of slander on Wikipedia. This page, and many others like it are red flags that can and will result in large significant monetary judgements being awarded to the affected parties. I suggest you do some quick Damage control before you find yourselves in the situation two of the major media outlets recently did. The times are changing and people are tired of this continuous Cancel Culture character assassination attempts that are allowed to go unchecked, by platforms, like Wikipedia. Just because you do not agree with someones point of view is no justification for spreading slander, lies, and false information about them. And now, judges around the country have been increasingly having to side with the victims of these false naratives being promoted by platforms such as Wikipedia. 2600:8802:D01:CB00:C43A:10D7:CAA6:82FF (talk) 20:44, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
